Garden Suburb Theatre Newsreel

We are sad to announce the death of Ken Carter who appeared in a number of GST productions before he moved to Cornwall to be near his son. He was happily able to rejoin us more recently on Zoom.

Helen and Malcolm Stern remember him as a faithful and highly respected member whose breadth of knowledge on all subjects was much admired. John Colmans has these memories: "I directed Ken in The Country Wife and also co-directed him in The Lady's Not for Burning with Colin. He had a part in Amadeus in which he was supposed to drop a tray of cakes when coming across Salieri having cut his throat but he always threw the cakes down instead - one of those moments which we all used to enjoy watching backstage. He was a lovely gentle man who will be much missed."

Ken appeared as well as Professor Kirke in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, in Dame Henrietta's Dream and, in 2008, as an elderly Capulet cousin in Romeo and Juliet, in which role he appears in the photo below.
